Status Seeking

“People who are living far below their means enjoying a freedom that people busy upgrading their lifestyles can’t fathom”

Naval Ravikant

I have the fortune to have a close knit group of friends that has developed over the past decade.

At this time in our mid-twenties we’re looking to succeed as a group more than ever.

One of the guys in the group is ambitious like the rest — a high paying job with a top security clearance.

The world is his.

But he wants an Audi, and not just any Audi a decked out 2020 S3.

A Camry, or even a skateboard can get you to work, but why an Audi?

The price of anything is related to the [perceived] status it brings.

Why does everyone have an iPhone? Why do we choose the Audi over the Toyota? The Rolex over the GShock?

These are status seeking signals — “I belong to this lifestyle, you’re an outsider.”

I say this to shine light to the idea, not to sway your mind to any direction.

This is an interesting topic and I cannot explain it in the way Naval Ravikant can.

He’s a venture capital king by trade, but has points of view I highly respect and try to impliment in my life.

Listen to this six minute explanation about seeking wealth, and not status.
