Rewiring Your Mind in 5 Minutes

Toltec teachings and lessons on cutting your screen time down.

Good morning to those in the west and good afternoon for those in the east.

Here’s another Monday Scroll fresh off the press.

Something to read:

Mexican-born author Don Miguel Ruiz is known for popularizing words of wisdom from Toltec teachings.

These ancient maxims became modernized with the creation of the Four Agreements — a powerful code of conduct that can rapidly transform our lives to a new experience of freedom and true happiness.

The First Agreement – BE IMPECCABLE WITH YOUR WORD

Speak with integrity and say only what you mean. Avoid using the word to speak against yourself or to gossip about others. Use the power of your word in the direction of truth and love.

The Second Agreement – DON’T TAKE ANYTHING PERSONALLY

Nothing others do is because of you. What others say and do is a projection of their own reality, their own dream. When you are immune to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t be the victim of needless suffering.

The Third Agreement – DON’T MAKE ASSUMPTIONS

Find the courage to ask questions and express what you really want. Communicate with others as clearly as you can to avoid misunderstandings, sadness, and drama. With just this one agreement, you can completely transform your life.

The Fourth Agreement – ALWAYS DO YOUR BEST

Doing your best is going to change from moment to moment; it will be different when you are tired as opposed to well rested. Under any circumstance, simply do your best and you will avoid self-judgment, self-abuse, and regret.

Something to watch:

If there’s one habit we can all work on is the over-usage of our pocket supercomputers.

Jack-of-many-trades Tim Ferriss goes into how we all can cut some screen time out.

Short list of what I do personally:

  1. Turn text messaging off from 10pm till 12:30 the following day Mon-Fri (exceptions are co-workers/clients, business partners and family.)

  2. Apps like Facebook and Twitter I use on desktop only. All Analects posts are loaded up via Facebook Business Suite.

  3. Have a timer for 1 hour for Instagram usage (this one’s tough)

Lemme know what tricks you have and use.

A song to listen to:

I’ve had this on repeat for about 5 days straight now

Listen to this track and many others on The Playlist by Modern Analects

A quote to think about:

“Care about what other people think and you will always be their prisoner.” Lao Tzu

And there you have it.. another smorgasbord of things I found interesting over the past week. Let me know feedback/questions/concerns — whatever suggestions you have for the future of this newsletter I’m all ear (and eyes).
