Inner Scorecard

“The big question about how people behave is whether they’ve got an inner scorecard or an outer scorecard. It helps if you can be satisfied with an inner scorecard.”

Warren Buffett

Giving money to charity is something ingrained in society for centuries.

We give because we want to, it makes us feel good, and if we are so moved by the cause we share with others.

The internet introduced crowdfunding and the online donations became the new-preferred method.

This added a social layer to a timeless act — “I’ll donate here and post about it so my peers see that I care.”

This is all great at face value, but ask yourself the question:

Would you give without the social acceptance factor?

A book I’ve been diving more as of late is The Bible — here is a related excerpt:

Matthew 6:2-5 — “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by others. Truly I tell you, they have received their reward in full. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.
