A not-so-fun fact about America is that around forty percent of food produced in the states heads to the landfill or is otherwise wasted.

And what’s to blame you may ask? The dates on food labels.

Food labels became a thing after World War II and was a marketing trick to keep the freshest food on the shelves and to throw away what was deemed “bad.”

What’s the root of the problem? Shopping culture? Government? Capitalism?
