Most of you would not know who Cal Newport is, but his internet presence has been built around one term.

.. and before you look him up — he has no social media accounts, just a blog.

He’s popularized the term “digital minimalism” with his newest book and preaches extensively about the toxic relationship between society and smartphones.

All of us, adolescents — operating a technology that was also in it’s adolescence.

As we all matured with social media, vanity metrics gradually became the focus.

Likes and retweets cast a shadow over the underlying reason to why social media exists; to share and story-tell.
