Decades of Progress

“Black people are the most talented people in the world,”

Jamie Foxx

Imagine the chaos before traffic lights were mainstream.

Or how treacherous elevators were before automatic closing doors.

Before texting, our ancestors had to send letters with mailboxes not being widespread till the 1920’s.

And decades later, life got much better when gifted with the search engine.

A piece of code that gave birth to a whole new world — and the creator never made money off of it.

Once we had the internet, then came video games. I remember the struggle to get those cartridge Nintendo 64 games to work as a child.

And running around with Super Soakers in the summer time months.

But all these memories and examples of life before us carry a similarity.

That everything mentioned was the result of a black person’s perseverance.

It’s the vision they had when the odds were stacked against them that gave us things we take for granted now.

And whether Black History Month is recognized in your country or not, there is deep value in knowing your history.

It’s when we learn how things were, we can craft where we fit in the future history books.
