Decades Over Days

How to focus long term over short term.

Good morning (or afternoon) from wherever you are in the world.

Here to deliver what I found interesting over the past week.

Something to Read: Amara’s Law

We tend to overestimate the effect of a technology in the short run and underestimate the effect in the long run”.

A statement of fact coined up by futurist Roy Amara on how we perceive the impact of a new technology.

But lets apply this idea to the common person:

From news headlines to whatever life throws at you — we tend to overestimate what’ll happen next week.

And underestimate what’ll happen over the next year.

How many of us overestimated the negative implications of a virus?

To then see the water settling after a year of hysteria and confusion?

Or think about the abrupt breakup that left you bedridden for days on end.

A Quote to Think About:

“In life our first job is this, to divide and distinguish things into two categories: externals I cannot control, but the choices I make with regard to them I do control. Where will I find good and bad? In me, in my choices.”
