THE SHAMROCK SYSTEM – PLUS, MINUS, AND EQUAL

One common mistake I've seen people my age (mid-20s) make as they move up in the ranks is the over-focus of networking their way up whichever ladder they wish to climb.

It's easy to take these days, but can we practice giving? Can we have unforced relationships with people at different stages?

The Shamrock System (h/t James Altucher) describes this idea in three parts:

  • Plus: Experience is a master teacher, even when it’s not our own.

  • Minus: The teacher learns more than the student.

  • Equal: Learning on your own < learning with.

So think outside of the confines of your title on LinkedIn.

Your neighbor's kid. Your younger cousin. Your parent who's struggling to lose weight.
